3 easy steps for better CD recording with Windows.

[Stop wasting CD recordables]

3 easy steps for Windows 95

Tips for all operating systems

1. Turn off IDE block transfer mode
Why With IDE block transfer mode, data will be moved faster from your hard drive. But you will also experience pauses of several secondes. Therefore, switch it of before recording CDs.
How Select "IDE block transfer mode" in the bios and choose "disable".
Remarks Performance of your hard drive will be decreased by about 10 percent.
2. Use a fix size for file cache.
Why To avoid having Windows 95 changing the file cache size while recording CDs
How Enter the following lines in system.ini:
[vcache]
MinFileCache=2048
MaxFileCache=2048
Remarks Das System muss neu gestartet werden, bevor die Einstellungen wirksam werden.
3. Use fix size for virtual memory.
Why To avoid having Windows 95 changing the virtual memory size while recording CDs.
How See picture below (taken from a german version of Windows 95, hope you don't mind): Enter the size of the virtual memory manually. The clue: enter the same values for minimum and maximum size, which will cause virtual memory to keep a fixed size. (What value? Best guess is to double the amount of physical RAM you have, e.g. if you have 16 MB physical RAM, enter 32 MB virtual memory).

To get to this setting, choose from Start: Settings / Control Panel / System.In System, choose Performance Properties (should look like picture below, but in english), then choose virtual memory (button down right).

Remarks With these settings you will also experience an increased performance of your Windows 95 system.
