While recording CDs, the hard disk has to deliver a constant stream of data. If interrupted for a few seconds, you will get a "buffer underrun" and your CD-recordabale gets unusable
    You can avoid this with optimal configuration. Three easy steps are enough for Windows 95. Other tips will help with most operating systems.
     All information is based on painfull experience of the webmaster.

As suggested by the HP  Hotline, I used a cleaning CD. Not only went the dust away, but also the problem which transformed many, many CD-Rs to waste.

Better use a wet cleaning system (available for example at Jumbo).

The german computer magazine c't reports of heat problems with cheap internal cd recorders. Their optical device is affected by the heat, what leads to errors. First sporadic and after a couple of CDs in a row, these errors can finally make it impossible to burn a CD. I recommend buying an external CD recorder
